Ways to Save Money While Abroad

The amount of expenses used during the study abroad experience truly boils down to how motivated and willing students are to save a few dollars here and there.  Saving a few dollars on all expenditures overseas could actually amount into hundreds or even thousands once all is said and done.  The first step students should take in an attempt to save as much money as possible overseas is to create a simple spreadsheet on Microsoft Excel and track all expenditures.  Often time’s students skip over this step and find themselves in massive debt after their return home.  In all reality, one of the best ways in which students can receive a lower price on their purchases is by bidding.  Students should not be shy or timid about bidding on products or services as it is viewed as a cultural norm in many societies around the world.  International students will also discover that bringing their international ID card everywhere can lead to some lucrative discounts as well.  A popular international ID is an ISIC Card, clicking on the link will take you to the website, and students are strongly encouraged to show these cards at every store, shop, museum, or restaurant in which they visit.  Another measure which will save students money on their travels is package deals.  These travel packages are often offered by universities and organizations which have transportation, food, and overnight accommodations included in them at a lower price than normal.  Other straightforward ways in which students can save money is just simply walking on foot to place and asking local residents for recommendations.  Students must be wary when doing so though because taking information from the wrong person could lead to serious consequences.  It truly hinges on the international student to put forth the effort to try and save as much money as possible, otherwise one can easily find that he or she is in massive debt after return home.
