If study abroad students have the necessary funding to utilize all of the essential features of a iPhone, then it is highly recommended that they pack one for their experience. The iPhone, no matter what type students have, has all of the necessary features for international study with the capabilities of making phone call, texting, internet, pictures, voice recording, and of course apps. Utilizing all of these features, although costly, can truly save students from getting lost or in a sketchy situation. In my opinion, the best characteristic available for all of the iPhones is the various apps. A critical study abroad app is the “Mobile City Map” app as it pinpoints where students are in a foreign city and can truly save them from getting lost. iPronunciation is also a needed app for study abroad students with over 53 languages and all that international students need to do is talk into their iPhone in order for the iPhone to provide a quick translation. If students discover that they are not in an ideal situation about, then this app could honestly get them out of it. Another critical app on the iPhone is Yelp as it can provide international students with literally millions of addresses, restaurants, and stores throughout the world. In addition, student iPhone users should strongly consider downloading the app Word Lens. Students who decide to use this app can just open this app, point their phone at a foreign word or sign, and watch Word Lens translate whatever the word in to the student’s primary language. The international study abroad experience is not an easy one, but the utilization of the many apps available on the iPhone can take some of the strain off of international students.
