This blog post will serve little purpose for study abroad students which fly regularly but will assist those who have many questions related to common airport and airline procedures. A list has been composed below that contains some quick facts and will answer many general airline travel questions for study abroad students. The quick facts listed below are considered general information and if students desire specific answers to their questions then they should refer to their selected airline company of travel.
- It is recommended that students arrive at the airport at least two hours in before departure as they will be asked a series of serious questions related to travel, need to have their baggage checked, and have proper documentation overlooked.
- Most flights to international countries will only allow one carry-on bag and one item of luggage which are free of the checking fee charge as long as they meet the airline’s size limitations.
- Restricted items for carry-on bags include: knives, razor blades, aerosols, liquids, gels over 3 ounces, guns, tools, and any explosive or flammable items.
- Restricted items for luggage include: any explosive or flammable items, lighters, matches, and spray paint.
- Students should include their name and address inside of their luggage and once checked they should also place their name outside of the bag.
- Prescriptions should be brought with any medication and be carried onto the flight with the student.
- Be sure to bring all proper documentation including a passport, visa, letter of enrollment, driver’s license, and other documentation recommended by the students host or domestic school.
Checking into the airport can be a long and drawn out process but there should be no issues as long as study abroad students give themselves plenty of time to check in. Study abroad students should be patient and polite toward airport and airline employees as an experience of a lifetime is about to be encountered shortly.
